The latest in the T-series of compact cameras from Sony, the Cyber-shot DSC-T300 is replacing the T200 which was very popular among CNET Asia's readers. To make it more worthwhile, the T300 offers intelligent functions yet does not compromise in style or functionality. These intelligent functions will let you focus more on the shots than on the controls. With 10.1 megapixels and driven by the Bionz image processing engine, the T300 should be able to satisfy many casual shooters who are looking for an ultraslim camera to bring around. Were hoping the screen will be totally fingerprint-resistant--since we might not be able to keep our hands off it.

The 20th Century University Is Obsolete

As with IBM, 20th century universities believe their brand will sustain price increases. "No frill, just degree" competitors are producing product without the high cost of minimalist full-time faculty workloads, large libraries and multiple staff intensive manual processes. As with the personal computer, will the buying market ultimately see any difference between the products except the name on the plastic and the price on the sticker?

What will be the destiny of the current life form we have called the 20th century university? It consumes far too many resources for what it returns to the environment, and though there are vast resources (markets) available, its structures do not let it tap these resources effectively. Its evolutionary tardiness has provided opportunity for a new species to take hold — the profit driven university.

NT coroner finds Bob Collins committed suicide

FORMER Labor senator and accused pedophile Bob Collins took his own life using a combination of prescription drugs and alcohol, the Northern Territory coroner has found.

Mr Collins died in Darwin last September at the age of 61, three days before he was due to face court on child sex abuse charges dating back 30 years.

The charges included possessing child pornography, indecent assault, carnal knowledge and sexual intercourse without consent.

His death followed a long battle with bowel cancer, which had delayed legal proceedings against him.

In a statement issued today, Northern Territory Coroner Greg Cavanagh said the former senator had taken his own life.

"The cause of death was intentional overdose of prescription drugs with alcohol following upon a background of three years of significant medical difficulties and in the face of upcoming court cases,'' he said.

Worry mounts for father of missing student

For nearly a week, Brian Warren has had no contact with his son, Daniel Querzoli, a Bridgewater State College student missing since Valentine's Day.

Warren says he's had little sleep since then.

"I really don't know. I've run so many scenarios through my head that my brain's tired," said Warren, 40, on Tuesday night.

His son, Daniel Querzoli, 22, of Bridgewater, and his son's girlfriend, Amy Scott, 21, of New Jersey, have been missing since late Thursday night.

The case remains an active investigation and authorities are not ruling out foul play, Providence police Detective Sgt. Carl Weston said Tuesday.

"At this point, we don't have any evidence that points that way, but we're not completely discounting it," Weston said.

Criticism puts auction site Bidz.com under microscope

A few weeks ago, the chairman of online auction site Bidz.com forecast good news ahead. The company was headed for another blowout quarter, David Zinberg said, with sales topping the already-rosy projections made in November.

The announcement was designed partly to quell questions that had been swirling around the Culver City-based company for months.

Ask Amy: She's got the goods on cheat

Dear Amy: A few weeks ago my friend "Darla" was out of town for the weekend.

I spotted her boyfriend at a bar/restaurant with another woman. He could not keep his hands off of her and looked and smiled at her lovingly.

Years ago my husband had an affair with his secretary. I was the last to find out. The betrayal was doubled knowing that co-workers and friends knew and no one told me.

I am afraid of how Darla will react and whether she will turn on me. I still want to warn her. How should I do this? I'd like to be anonymous. What do you think?

ANXIOUS FRIEND

Amy says: This sort of scenario presents a challenge to a friendship, but because of your own personal experience, you are in a position to understand how your friend might feel if you didn't tell her about this and she found out later.

CJH 3: All-Star Picks, Derek Fisher, Heroes and more...

All Star Selections, a Defense of Jazz Fans Booing Derek Fisher, and why "Heroes" is the single most overrated show on Television.

It’s the time of the year where NBA pundits are picking their all-star teams and explaining why their players should be in. What’s stunning to me every time that I read a picks column is that they all seem to assume that they can select the starters and the reserves as if the fan vote never happened. This is convenient in years when the fans make irrational selections, like when they select popular players that have been injured all season or when the Chinese display a stunning cultural knack for democracy by ballot stuffing for Yao Ming, but does very little for explaining what the All-Star team actually could or should look like because they guarantee they’ll get the starters wrong right off the bat.

Changing the Script on Teen Pregnancy

Need I remind you of the news that teenage pregnancy rates have gone up for the first time since 1991? It's expected that 750,000 teenage girls will get pregnant this year. With, by the way, some help from boys. We've spent about $1 billion on the taxpayer scam known as abstinence-only education. And Jamie Lynn Spears announced her pregnancy, saying, "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."

Whatever the cost to actual teenage mothers, it isn't paid by their stars. The only one paying a price for Spears's pregnancy is OK! magazine, which reportedly put up $1 million for her pronouncement. (I'm OK! You're OK! Even if you're 16 and pregnant.)

I don't want to return to those wonderful yesteryears when Dan Quayle took on Murphy Brown. But we're navigating some pretty tricky cultural waters here.
