McCain criticizes Obama on Al Qaeda

Not to get off the subject but look at all these kid geniuses in the world who are going to college at the age of 10, getting the PH. D's at the age of 12 and getting jobs. But they too are inexperienced and young, but we are not holding them back because of their age and inexperince. So let's give Obama a chance let's see what he can do and if you don't like what he does, then do vote him back in, in the next four years.

Biofuel unites timber giant, Chevron

Critics point out that corn-based ethanol and soy-based biodiesel can have a negative impact on the environment and on food prices.

But optimists say that cellulosic ethanol, still at an early development stage, could open the door to turning agricultural waste into energy.

"For renewable fuels to make a meaningful contributions we have to move beyond food-based feedstocks," said Mike Wirth, Chevron's vice president for global refining and marketing operations.

Chevron already mixes a significant amount of ethanol into its gasoline, and expects alternative fuels to become "more meaningful" contributors to the fuel mix, Wirth said.

Qinhuangdao Economic and Technological Development Zone

And the Beijing-Shenyang expressway passes on the north. QETDZ West is 15 kilometers away from Qinhuangdao Civil Airport, which now has 17 domestic routes open to cities such as Shanghai, Dalian, Xi'an, and Kunming.

For the eastern section, to the north it is connected with the Shanhaiguan Cargo Marshalling Station, which is part of the Beijing-Harbin Railway and one of the top 6 marshalling stations in China. And the zone is open to the Bohai Sea to the south. In the zone there is a specialized railway connecting the Shanhaiguan Cargo Marshalling Station of Beijing-Harbin Railway and the Shanhaiguan Harbor and the Port of Shanhaiguan Shipyard, which handles 600,000 tons of cargo a year. A new Shanhaiguan port, with an estimated annual cargo handling capacity of 10 million tons from 8 berths, is under planning.

The Jam are back on the road without Weller

When I joined The Gift, Bruce was still involved with Stiff Little Fingers, and a side project called Casbah Club too," says the gravelvoiced Rick. "I played with them just because I wanted to get back into drumming. We found ourselves on the same bill at a gig, so I asked Bruce if he fancied getting up and doing a couple of numbers with us, seeing as we were all in the same room," he continues. "He did, and the reaction was great, which I think convinced him to get involved more permanently."

The duo also talk of possible new material for the band, although, like the decision to get back together, it's not something they'd do if it wasn't up to scratch.

UTC hall of fame adds four tonight

Four former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga standouts have a new honor to add their list of accomplishments: Hall of Fame member.

Lori Massengill was a two-time All-American tennis player and Beth Alexander Edgar was twice named Southern Conference softball pitcher of the year; Eric Smith led the UTC basketball team in scoring in a breakthrough season, and Mike Hogan twice led the football team in rushing.

The UTC Athletics Hall of Fame's newest class will be honored at a dinner tonight and at halftime of Saturday's men's basketball game at McKenzie Arena. The inductees were chosen by a nine-member panel of UTC officials and former student-athletes.

Smith was the leading scorer, at 16.4 points per game, on the 1981 men's basketball team, the first in the program's history to win a SoCon championship and compete in the NCAA Division I tournament.

Blotter: Man’s attempt at dating nets harassment charge

A Denton man tried to land a date with a woman at the Denton County Courthouse on Wednesday.

He landed behind bars instead.

County sheriff's deputies arrested the 41-year-old man after he reportedly passed an explicit note to a stranger as she waited in a jury room.

In the handwritten note, the man complimented the woman's appearance and said he wanted to have "illegal sexual relations" with her, according to a sheriff's office report.

Asked why he did it, the man told deputies that he'd had trouble getting dates in the past, and other women suggested he try a more direct approach.

Deputies took him directly to jail.

His bail on a harassment charge was set at $5,000.

AFL Week 1 Preview and Predictions (Pt. 2)

A quick note before we get into the preview and predictions. Mentioned in the part 1 column was the release of former Orlando Predator WR Javarus Dudley. This came as a surprise to most but to the New Orleans VooDoo, it came as a gift wrapped in gold. The team from the Big Easy snatched up the wideout on Thursday and could look to use his services as early as this weekend.

ARIZONA RATTLERS (4-12) at UTAH BLAZE (8-8)

Saturday, March 1 - 9:00 (ET)

The Rattlers - Arizona completely rehauled the entire roster during the offseason. The face of the franchise for 15 years, QB Sherdrick Bonner (now with Chicago), was shown the door after a new coaching staff showed up in the desert. Head coach Kevin Guy was brought over from Western Division rival San Jose SaberCats where he constructed one of the best defenses in the league last year.

Understrength Hornets crash out of Cup

Mackay, under pressure from Bothroyd, stumbled as he sought to head clear and the ball bounced through to Keogh, who, from 20 yards out, produced a delightful right-footed lob that gave Richard Lee little chance to make it 1-0.

Watford's first opening came three minutes later when the ball broke to Jobi McAnuff and he drove inside off the left flank but flashed a right-footed attempt from the edge of the area well wide.

But the Hornets could have found themselves two down in the 15th minute when Neil Collins found Jarvis in far too much space down the left, and the former Gillingham wide-man surged into the area before cutting the ball back to Bothroyd, but he placed his shot too close to Lee.

Within two minutes though, Watford were so nearly back on terms.

Scott Ostler Archive

Somebody kicked LaDainian Tomlinson's butt Sunday, but it wasn't a 49er. It was Tomlinson's wife.

One of the Chargers running back's four rushing touchdowns Sunday was a 1-yard "run" in which the 5-foot-10 superstar launched himself up and over the pile of human wreckage and into the end zone. It was a 7-foot high jump, without a pit.

To stop L.T. on that one, the 49ers would have needed a butterfly net.

"Each time I do it (a touchdown leap), my wife is killing me," Tomlinson said with a grimace. "When I get home, it's going to be, 'Honey, I'm sorry.' "

Oh, yeah, there were a lot of regrets on the Chargers' side Sunday at Monster Park. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said, "I'm still a little bit mad about some plays we missed."

Even with missing all those plays, the Chargers still eked out a 48-19 win over the 49ers.

China paying dearly for cleaner rivers

The projected budget for the cleanup accounted for 2% of China's gross domestic product (GDP) of 20 trillion-plus yuan last year. According to a white paper issued by the State Council Information Office, China put 952 billion yuan into pollution control from 1996 to 2004, taking up 1% of the total GDP in the same period.

The central and local governments face a daunting task. Some provinces, such as those near the Yellow River and Huaihe River, are less developed and the battles against pollution could be too financially costly for the regional governments to bear.

For their richer counterparts in the east coastal area the headache is how to balance environmental quality and economic growth. In some places, the pursuit of faster GDP growth has proven to be literally toxic, such as in the Songhua River in northeast China in 2005 when a chemical plant explosion poisoned the water for thousands of kilometers.
