| Valentine's Day events for haters, lovers and everyone in-between
I'm far from a hopeless romantic, but I do like seeing people have a good time. That's why I'm glad some of the bars and clubs around town are getting a fiscal bite out of the holiday Hallmark gave us. After all, the card, chocolate and flower companies shouldn't be the only ones allowed to profit off our hearts. The best part about these events is that they work for almost everyone, whether you have someone or don't, care about meeting that special someone or just catching a buzz. Valentine's Day isn't just for you silly romantics anymore, but you can definitely join in on the party if you would like. *Metromix Orlando wants you to find your next ex at The Lodge in downtown Orlando Thursday. The "Ex to the Next" party will grant you free entry if you bring a picture of an ex and shred it at the door.

Dude, where's my G-spot?
The latest research, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, was carried out (by) the Dr. Emmanuele Jannini at the University of L'Aquila, and involved just 20 women. Ultrasound was used to measure the size and shape of the tissue beyond the 'front' wall of the vagina, often suggested as the location of the G-spot. In the nine women who reported being able to achieve vaginal orgasm, the tissues between the vagina and the urethra — which carries urine out of the body — were on average thicker than in the 11 women who could not reach orgasm this way." Reading this reminded me of the good old days of Plato's wandering uterus. Remember those? Good times. Mine always wanders back, like a raccoon in the Haight that remembers where you used to set out the cat food. I love rehashed myths — especially about the existence of the G-spot — but the piece about Jannini's study in New Scientist distorts the accuracy of anatomical fact even further: "For the first time it is possible to determine by a simple, rapid and inexpensive method if a woman has a G-spot or not," says Emmanuele Jannini ...
Stars raise £3,000 in a night
Steve ‘O', despite a broken leg in plaster, brought the evening up to date, including Kaiser Chiefs in his repertoire. Jon Gordon slowed the music down to give the dancers a chance for a more intimate interlude. Gobstopper rounded off the night, getting the whole audience up to the sounds of Village People's YMCA, with Paige giving a rendition of Abba's Mama Mia. Barrow can be justly proud that these acts, and all those behind the scenes, who gave up their Saturday night to help their less able neighbours. The night raised £3,000. Winter road bills piling up: More than half of 2008 budget already spent and winter’s not over
Mother Nature may put Jackson County highways on a salt-free diet and could strain the entire highway budget by the end of the year.Highway Commissioner Mike Hemp said Tuesday that through Feb. 13 the county has already spent 55 percent of its winter maintenance budget for 2008. That's only from Jan. 1, since the record December snow removal costs were part of the 2007 budget.Winter maintenance costs on county highways through Feb. 13 were $207,121. The 2008 budget available is $380,000, which also needs to cover the beginning of next winter too.Hemp showed the committee the average costs of winter maintenance by month since 1999. The average January costs were $79,110 and the average February costs were $64,016.The average cost in December is $73,653 and the county spent $197,124 in that month alone, Hemp said.
Aussies thrown out
AUSTRALIANS and Kiwis living and working in England have become the target of an immigration crackdown, with dozens facing expulsion on minor visa technicalities. In one case, an entire town has mounted a fight with the British Government to keep its rugby-playing New Zealander from being deported on the basis of a clerical error by his employer. Opposition MP David Maclean said in his 20 years in Parliament he had never seen so many Australians, Kiwis and South Africans being pursued by immigration officials. Mr Maclean said most cases he had seen had legitimate working visas but technicalities on the complex job application had seen them ordered to leave the UK. There are an estimated 250,000 Australians living in the capital alone, many on working visas.
Equestrian-Network's Community Drastically Affects Lives One Member at ...
AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- If you think EquestrianSingles.com is just another dating site, think again. When Teresa Lonadier, aka Dakota123, discovered EquestrianSingles.com in 2002, her world changed. Born with half a heart, and not expected to live, Teresa remained housebound and became a regular in EquestrianSingles.com's chatrooms. Embraced by members who fondly referred to her as "Little Sis," the website became her social life. In 2004, Teresa's parents drove her to an EquestrianSingles.com gathering to meet her new friends in person. A huge rodeo fan, Teresa was overjoyed when PBR bullfighter, Brian Payne, asked her to dance. Teresa had a smile on her face the size of Texas, and told him it was the first time a boy had ever asked her to dance. Teresa was admitted to the hospital in June 2007 for heart surgery.
Disrupting the Lawyer Ratings Paradigm
Given the current absence of substantive alternative resources on the Internet, we are confident that lawyers.com will quickly become the most popular online source for consumers to identify and evaluate a lawyer or law firm appropriate to their needs. Implicit in this statement is the company's recognition that until Lawyers.com, consumers of legal services other than lawyers had no direct access to its database of information regarding law firms and lawyers. Initially, Lawyers.com provided access to lawyer and law firm profiles, but eventually was modified to include a badge identifying "Peer Review Rated" lawyers. Lawyers.com did not, however, fully break the traditional paradigm, but only shifted it partially to: lawyers rating lawyers for the benefit of lawyers and clients seeking to hire lawyers.
Review: 'Definitely, Maybe' a ho-hum affair
This may be the most aptly-titled movie I've ever reviewed. It almost certainly has an ending - provisionally, at least - though it perhaps won't come soon enough for you. Speaking entirely for me. Definitely, Maybe tells the long-winded story (in flashback, mostly) of peripatetic gadfly Will Hayes (Ryan Reynolds, sporting a range of expression that would put most department store mannequins to shame), who must explain to his daughter Maya (wunderkind Abigail Breslin, acting rings around him) why it is that he's getting divorced from her mom. We are constrained from revealing the identity of that actress/character because the mystery surrounding which of three individuals she actually may be is what carries the drama portion of this melancholic romantic dramedy along to its eventual blessed conclusion, nearly two hours into your movie-viewing future.
