Ikea store gets green light
The store, complete with 600-seat restaurant, and 891-space multi-storey car park, is likely to open until 10pm. It will create 500 jobs. Ikea planning manger Graham Sharp said: "We are delighted. It's been a long slog. It's taken two years of preparation to get to this stage and we're pleased we got full support of the councillors." He told councillors traffic was going to grow in the city, but it was a question of making the best use of sites in the city. The Pirelli site was the best available because an out-of-town plot would not get planning consent, he said. An earlier plan for Millbrook was withdraw. .
Autistic and adored: Couple’s dating guide tackles social challenges
Emilia Murry Ramey and Jody John Ramey met through a mutual friend. They soon discovered they had more in common than their friend. Both were students at Portland State University. And both have autism. The Vancouver couple are among the estimated 1.5 million Americans living with the effects of some degree of autism. Specifically, Emilia and Jody both have Asperger’s Disorder, marked by social awkwardness and a lack of understanding of conventional social rules. As if dating weren’t hard enough. "I hadn’t had any dating experience before meeting her," said Jody, 35. "I used to say I had more jobs than dates," joked Emilia, 33. Not only did Jody and Emilia figure out dating, they laid out tips for others in a book, "Autistics’ Guide to Dating: A Book by Autistics, for Autistics and Those Who Love Them or Who Are In Love with Them." London-based Jessica Kingsley Publishers expected to release the book as early as today.
Lynx tells online Casanovas to get real
A tongue-in-cheek digital advertising campaign from deodorant brand Lynx is aiming to help men who spend too much time flirting on Facebook and in chatrooms to learn how to pull women in real life. The campaign, the first work by creative ad agency BBH since it won Lynx's digital business in December, aims to give men "diverse digital content to use to play the seduction game in real life". In recognition of the fact that the web and gadgets are part of most young men's lifestyle, BBH has put a website, called Get in There, at the heart of the campaign. The site, lynxeffect.com, has tools including a range of mobile phone applications that will turn a handset into "a pulling tool, a weapon of mass seduction". Lynx's Fit Girl Finder emits a bleeping sound that "homes in" on an attractive lady.
UK shamed in world privacy league
We assume they'd have to create a new category for Google, Facebook et al. The summary of Privacy International's analysis says: "The 2007 rankings show an increasing trend amongst governments to archive data on the geographic, communications and financial records of all their citizens and residents. This trend leads to the conclusion that all citizens, regardless of legal status, are under suspicion." You can read the full results here. SEKOFF: Of course it is. But the point is, your own network, MSNBC, here we are, they did an exit poll in New Hampshire and 73 percent of the people said they were worried about a major terrorist attack. And you know the Clinton campaign which is the most poll and focus test group knew that. And of course, that‘s what she was trying to do. (CROSSTALK) ABRAMS: Kate, I think she was trying to make it an issue in the campaign, but my question is, what‘s wrong with that? OBENSHAIN: I‘m with you Dan. There‘s nothing wrong. They are making a serious miscalculation if they don‘t talk about it. But the problem is whenever the Democrats or frankly, Republicans, but will talk about Democrats right now, whenever they even talk reasonably about the threat of terrorism, when they mention it, a real events that occurred, Democrats pile on and say, oh, gosh, they‘re fear mongering.

Among the hundreds who gathered to hear the service relayed on loudspeakers was Derek Moore, 33, a Motherwell fan for 25 years, from Carfin. He said: "When Motherwell won the Scottish Cup in 1991 and he scored one of the goals, it was one of the greatest days of my life. "He was just an absolute gentleman, and I'm here to pay my respects for his family." Outside the church, floral tributes lined the walls. One said: "The best Beat The Goalie ever." Another from former Celtic player John Collins and his wife, Susan, paid tribute to: "A great man and a great team-mate who will be sadly missed."
