Pietersen fights lone battle

Kevin Pietersen hit a defiant half-century as England's reshuffled batting order slumped into trouble on the opening day of their final warm-up match before the start of next week's first Test.

Having previously announced Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook would open with Andrew Strauss batting at number three, Ian Bell moving up to five and Paul Collingwood dropping down to six, the new order had plenty to prove against a strong Select XI line-up.

But after being put into bat, they slumped to 96 for six at lunch with only Pietersen playing an innings of note as the Select XI exploited helpful conditions to disrupt the tourists' preparations for the start of the Test series.

England were hoping their top order could get useful batting practice ahead of the opening Test in Hamilton but instead quickly slipped into trouble with captain Vaughan suffering a second-ball duck after edging seamer Iain O'Brien behind in the second over.

Egypt’s modern history told through Awraq Mas

Characters are either extremely wealthy or dying from poverty. They are corrupt businessmen from big families with lots of sons and daughters who face the usual emotional problems and psychological diseases; or they are intrepid journalists and revolutionary leaders who fight injustice. It is perfectly normal to notice one actor or actress playing three similar roles in three different series all of which are showing at the same time. (Last Ramadan Dr. Ezzat Abou-Ouf and Boshra both appeared in three series each.) It is thus not uncommon for a star or even a supporting actor to move between three sets and shoot for 24 hours in front of the rolling camera — every day. Due to their busy and crazy schedules, performers are usually worn out and extremely stressed. That doesn’t mean, however, they can’t manage to make time for (an often paid for) guest appearance on TV programs.

Police Warn of Rapes After Online Sex Postings

After a rash of rapes in the Temple Hills and Suitland areas, police are warning women to be careful on online singles sites and online communities.

At least six rapes have been reported in the last few months in those areas, some after women posted ads on Craigslist looking for sex. In the most recent sexual assault on February 19th, police say they responded to the 9100 block of Baltimore Avenue for reports of a rape in Suitland.

The victim said she met the suspect on a chat line and agreed to meet with him. When the victim met the suspect, he showed a handgun and raped her in the building stairwell.

Major Dan Dusseau, Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, said, "We want to alert women who are soliciting for sex online to use caution.

Save the Planet by Surfing the Web, 'Green' Websites Promise

On the internet, anyone can be an environmentalist. All you have to do, is, well, nothing. A number of "green" internet businesses promise users they can help save the planet by doing little more than surfing the right websites.

For instance, Blackle.com claims to help you save energy by offering a version of Google that has a black background, which may cut down on your display's electricity consumption. There are green search engines, green shopping sites, and even green dating sites -- it's an impressive abundance of good intentions.

Howie Scores Backstreet Bride

Howie Dorough doesn't have to worry about the meaning of being lonely anymore.

The Backstreet Boy took a bride Saturday in his hometown of Orlando, marrying longtime girlfriend Leigh Boniello, a lawyer for the band confirmed.

With his fellow Backstreeters looking on, Dorough, 34, said his I-do's to cap a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. James Cathedral.

"The wedding took place as planned, and all went well," attorney Jason L. Turner said in a statement.

The nuptial news was first reported by OK! magazine, which was given exclusive coverage to the affair.

Boniello was the Webmaster for the Backstreet site, and the two began dating six years ago. Dorough finally popped the question last New Year's.

"She wasn't expecting it, and I was quite nervous—more nervous about proposing to her in front of 40 family and friends than about performing in front of 40,000 people onstage," Dorough told People earlier this year.

Howard's comeback bid thwarted

Party sources said Mr Howard put himself forward as the next Liberal Party president to replace outgoing Chris McDiven.

Ms McDiven's term as president was due to expire in the middle of this year, but senior Liberals, including SA Senator and former minister Nick Minchin, urged her to resign.

One source said that "Howard contacted people to make it known he wanted the presidency", but his candidacy was scoffed at by senior Liberals.

A spokesman for Mr Howard said the claims were untrue.

Former foreign affairs minister Alexander Downer also made an unsuccessful bid for the presidency. Alan Stockdale, treasurer under former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett, is the likely new party president, one source said. With the Sunday Mail

Union backs saucy ad teacher

A UNION has backed a teacher suspended from her job over a raunchy internet advert made during her student days. Sarah Green, who teaches at exclusive Stockport Grammar school, was sent home this week after pupils stumbled across a graphic advert in which she stars as a seductive secretary. The 25-year-old English teacher had carried out a number of acting jobs while a student at Manchester Metropolitan University. The National Union of Teachers said that her past activities would not affect her abilities to teach pupils. The four-minute film was created to promote a brand of protective workwear and shows three contractors being seduced by a number of attractive women. Although Ms Green was fully-clothed throughout, it was too explicit for television but proved a hit on the internet with tens of thousands of viewers on Youtube and other sites.
