Watch for viruses in Valentine's Day e-mails, FBI says

Categorized as malicious software or malware, the e-mail directs the recipient to click on a link that will retrieve the e-card. Once the link is clicked, malware is automatically downloaded to the users computer.

According to the FBI, a botnet is dispersed into the computers internal system. Once this happens, the computer can be controlled by the invading third party.

It affects almost every type of Microsoft operating system, and once the virus infiltrates the computers files, the files can be manipulated or destroyed.

The FBI warns the public not to open e-mails from unknown users or click on unfamiliar links.

The FBI has established a Web site dedicated to alerting the public of any new e-scams at www.fbi.gov/cyberinvest/escams.htm.

Concha Buika stands proud from flamenco crowd

Concha Buika has a confession to make, one that could irreparably damage flamenco. Preparing to make her British debut at Sadler's Wells theatre in London on March 14, the hottest property the world of traditional Spanish music has seen in many years tells me that she prefers going to bed early over trawling Andalusia's bars caterwauling until dawn. "I live a quiet, healthy life," she says, "and I only go to flamenco clubs occasionally, when my manager isn't looking."

The 35-year-old singer tells me this only after I have risked developing cancer through passive smoking in La Carboneria, Seville's most notorious late-night flamenco bar. If you've ever felt short-changed after a show packaged up for tourists on the costas, this is the antidote. It is 3am and, accompanied only by an acoustic guitar, a middle-aged woman with dyed orange hair and an elaborate white dress is stomping around a tiny stage entertaining a crowd of students with tales of a life in which she has been dealt just one bad hand too many.

Interview : Nicolas Cage

And, what do you think sets this sequel apart from the original film? Nicolas Cage: You may be aware that Ive not done a sequel before, and the reason being that, generally speaking, I never like to repeat myself. In this case, I do believe that, if youre going to do a sequel, it has to promise to be better than the original, or at least as good. Largely, the fear with sequels is that people get lazy. They realize they have a winner, and then they just throw money at it and they dont care. Fortunately, working with John Turteltaub, in particular, he really cares about the story. I wanted to make sure that we could go in a direction that would raise the stakes, and also hopefully be more interesting. When they first presented the idea of Civil War, Confederate gold, John Wilkes Booth and the Lincoln assassination, right off the bat, for me, personally, that was more interesting, historically.

Georgia lifts emergency, sacks PM

GEORGIA has lifted a nine-day state of emergency and President Mikhail Saakashvili is preparing to sack his prime minister ahead of presidential elections in the former Soviet state.

Mr Saakashvili also promised not to impede opposition parties in the run up to the January 5 presidential vote despite ordering police last week to violently crush anti-government protesters and then raid a strongly critical television station.

Mr Saakashvili's Western allies have been pressing him to lift the restrictions on media and demonstrations since the crackdown, when police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at opposition supporters.

An official in the presidential press service said Mr Saakashvili, after a specially-convened cabinet meeting, would remove prime minister Zurab Nogaideli and appoint a replacement.

Ringler: College golf's ABCs

A – Alabama: Jay Seawell has built the Crimson Tide into one of the country's premiere programs and a threat to win the men's championship.

B – Bubble: With district allocations gone from the men's and women's selection process we will now truly have teams on the bubble as the spring season progresses.

C – Charlotte: The 49ers men's team went 58-0 in the fall, and might be the best team in the country at spots 1-5 in the lineup.

D – Denver: Sammie Chergo's Pioneers might petition to move the NCAA Divison I Women's Championship to the fall season. Fall golf has been good to Denver the last two seasons and they enter the spring as the No. 5 team in the country.

E – East Carolina: Head coach Kevin Williams returned to lead the Pirate women and has guided them to a No.
